"The world taught women nothing skillful and then said her work was valueless. It permitted her no opinions and said she did not know how to think. It forbade her to speak in public and said the sex had no orators. It denied her the schools, and said the sex had no genius. It robbed her of every vestige of responsibility, and then called her weak."

Carrie Chapman Catt.

I told someone about male privilege and they said “Oh, like men gained power based on their skills and women didn’t?” It just reminds me of this quote.

You can’t disadvantage a group for 200+ years and then hold them to the same standard of those who you privileged over and over, but I guess that’s a novel concept.

Disadvantaged roles experienced second-hand are not the same as those experienced first-hand. I agree the sexes need to be equal but different (concessions need to be made on either side to achieve a fair balance), but don’t believe major concessions should be made for wrongdoings of previous generations. It’s similar to how I don’t expect the British to bend over and take it for what they did to my ancestors. I’m not inferring that it’s fair now and that we should forget about it, but I am stating I believe that when a fair balance is achieved we need to ensure we’re not skewing it because being a woman sucks, comparatively, right now.

If whores are a common enough sight that you can use the expression “common whore” maybe you should move to a nicer neighbourhood

I want to go down to the states and start chanting “We do not negotiate with terrorists” to see how many people join.

I was on he phone with a really helpful tech support guy from Apple the other day, it was on a unrelated topic. So, I mentioned to him that my AT&T contract was up, and what would be the best way to go about getting a discount on a iPhone 4, you know, use a contract extension as leverage. And he told me to wait, Apple had hoped to release the iPhone 5 this past June but he thinks a Sept. release is a done deal.

The iPhone thing doesn’t surprise us … the word that they might subsidize the iPad and sell it for $199 does. That would be huge.

Dude, anybody you’re allowed to speak to in the company won’t know till a day or two before release—if that. He’s probably speculating. The only phone companies that like people knowing their details are LG Samsung and RIM. Sometimes HTC.

This is awful. It’s like they took the rape scene in “Blindness” and replaced the people voices with whale voices.

“@AlisonAgosti The second I walk into my apartment I will make a widow out of my cereal” You’re going to drink a 4 gallon container of milk?

My parents bought “Best Mom Ever” and “Best Dad Ever” cups for themselves yesterday… I don’t know what to think about that.

My nightmares are messed (the fuck) up

I had a fucked up Nightmare. Think of The Shining, but it’s 3 people he’s chasing (a brother, a sister and their 7 year old decade-and-a-half-younger brother) and the guy actually catches them, then starts basically cutting apart their bodies and stitching pieces of their faces etc. onto each other. While they’re still alive.

In the dream I’m the older brother, and I actually die early on in the dream. So I know my dead bodies slumped against the cupboard in the kitchen as he’s chasing down my siblings (I have siblings, but nothing like these kids. The sister looked a bit like the teen girl from Butterly Effect, the brother like the long-haired boy in Super 8). It’s first person till he stabs me with a fillet knife which bends and snaps off in my stomach, then it switches to third person 45 degree birds-eye-view for the rest as he chases the other siblings. Like a camera in a convenience store.

He catches them and then I wake up as the younger brother. I’m on the floor, on my right side, tied to a chair with my arms behind my back. My right shoulder’s dislocated. He’s talking about his ‘handy work’ and throwing a bloody knife from hand to hand, and as he says it I can hear my sister crying. He slides a mirror up to my face and I see it’s covered in blood and he’s cut off the end of my nose and stitched hers on, cut off my eyebrows but it’s taped on, my cheek’s cut off and half of it is stitched on, the other half droops into my mouth and moves as I breath. [dream ends]

Fuck. That was awful.

Christopher Cross - Ride Like The Wind

This song reminds me of road trips to California as a kid. Good times.

That’s nuts! I still listen to it every time I drive down there.
